"Weaving Tapestry" – a workshop with Cheryl Winstead
“WEAVING TAPESTRY” with Cheryl Winstead
The objective of this 4-hour workshop is to elevate the participants’ understanding of the
process involved in creating images that capture the imagination of the artist. With knowledge comes confidence and all things are possible. Tapestry weaving is an ancient art. The early images were woven to tell stories about people and events. Today there is no limit of images for artists.
The cost of the workshop is $20.00, payable to the instructor at the beginning of the workshop. Prior experience is not required.
Participants should plan to bring:
1. 4-5 large eye needles for the weft fibers they choose.
2. Yarn comb for packing the weft fibers
3. Weft yarn/fiber in several colors
The weft yarn/fiber should be able to pack well to cover the warp fiber. A smaller wool or alpaca fiber works well. Cotton can be used but it needs to be a loosely spun variety so that it will cover the warp threads. I do not suggest acrylic fiber.
4. Scissors
5. Water and a food snack for energy.
6. A tapestry loom or frame loom if they have one. It should be warped with 8/4 cotton or similar fiber.
Instructor will provide:
1. Additional frame looms – pre-warped – for those who don’t have one (I have 6 small frame looms and 4 medium frame looms).
2. Warping fiber.
3. Extra needles, scissors, masking tape, clamps, paper for drawing and colored pencils.
To sign up for this workshop, send an email to louisenuttle@gmail.com. Please indicate if you have a tapestry or frame loom of your own. Note: Class size is limited to 10 participants.
